Marcellus Senior High School Science Olympiad Team

Congratulations go out to the Marcellus High School Science Olympiad team on their 10th place finish at the Regional Science Olympiad Tournament held at LeMoyne College on January 30, 2010. The Science Olympiad is an international non-profit organization “devoted to improving the quality of science education, increasing student interest in science and providing recognition for outstanding achievement in science.” The Science Olympiad tournament begins at the regional level and progresses through state and national competitions. The tournaments provide for “rigorous academic competition that consists of team events” relative to a variety of science topics. The Marcellus Senior High School team, coached by high school science teacher Jennifer Carnes, came in 10th out of 33 Central New York high schools. Noteworthy performances at the event included a 5th place medals for “Astronomy” posted by team members Jack Krantz and Matt Coon. It was the second year in a row that Coon and Krantz scored in this event. Krantz and Coon also scored impressive silver medals in the physics lab competition. Additionally, Krantz and Joelle Orecki won a silver medal for “Fossils”. The team would like to wish seniors Jack Krantz, Matt Coon, Kaitlyn Colle, Kelly Ryan, and Nate Heath the best of luck in their promising futures and a world of thanks for their commitment to the team.
