‘Discover Your Talent Day’ workshops to reveal life skills to kids March 31
Maybe, just maybe, the world’s next musical genius or best-selling author is sitting behind a desk at Marcellus, quietly waiting to be discovered. That’s the thinking behind “Discover Your Talent Day,” a half-day of free workshops in soccer, Irish step-dancing and more than 20 other activities, set for March 31 at K.C. Heffernan Elementary (KCH).
Experts from the Marcellus community have volunteered to lead the workshops for some 275 children enrolled in kindergarten through third grade at KCH. Lessons will cover cake decorating, science experiments, guitar playing, bird-watching, pottery, crocheting, painting, karate, card-making, sign language, yoga and more. Area businesses and residents are donating the instruction, including McClurg Associates (woodworking), The Chocolate Pizza Company (chocolate-making), The Wren’s Den (soap-making), Fulton Screen Printing (cartooning), Scent From Above (candle-making), Bass Pro Shops (fishing), The Green Stitch Company (sewing) and Baltimore Woods (nature adventure).
“We are so happy to be offering a day like this for our students,” K.C. Heffernan Principal Gary Bissaillon said. “It promises to really enhance their learning at every level.”
Each student will get a chance to try two, hour-long workshops. Sessions begin at 9:05 a.m. and 10:55 a.m., with a break in between.
