Well, not really. But its logo does. Sometimes it’s a galloping mustang, to reflect the school district’s athletic mascot. Other times it’s a big, bold, green “M” or simply the word “Marcellus” in all capital letters.
When it comes to the role the district serves in the life of its community, Marcellus Central Schools is single-minded in its purpose: to provide an education that challenges, nurtures and supports each child as a whole person. (It says so right in the MCS mission statement.)
With that in mind, the Board is inviting students in Grades K through 12 to enter the “Marcellus Logo Design Contest.”
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance for students to not only help define the identity of Marcellus Central Schools, but to leave an enduring mark on campus,” Board President David Kelly said.
All contest submissions must be received by Superintendent of Schools Dr. Craig J. Tice in the district office by May 1. Board members then will select a winning concept during its May 7 regular meeting. A graphic artist then will use the winning concept to create a logo that meets professional design standards.
Some guidelines:
- Please limit entries to one per student.
- Entries can be submitted as hard copies or electronically. Electronic versions should be sent as email attachments to logocontest@marcellusschools.org
- Because the district logo will have to be reproduced in color, black-and-white and in a variety of sizes, the district reserves the right to amend the design.
Some general design tips to keep in mind:
- If you’re creating a design in color, will it also work in black and white? Logos frequently have to appear in both formats.
- Type should be bold, large and easy to read.
- Is the design recognizable when viewed from a distance? Imagery should be strong and clear.
- Remember the difference between a drawing and a logo. A logo is easy to recognize in large (banner on the side of a building) or small (emblem on a bookmark) formats.
Good luck and may the best design concept win!
