Board appoints O’Mara as DMS interim principal

Janet O'Mara, Interim DMS Principal
The Marcellus Central School District Board of Education on June 4 voted to appoint Janet O’Mara to the position of interim principal of C.S. Driver Middle School, effective July 1, 2013.

Ms. O’Mara has served as the district’s secondary curriculum coordinator since the 2010-11 school year. Previously, she was assistant principal for DMS. A native of Central Square, Ms. O’Mara holds a bachelor’s degree in biology education from Le Moyne College, a master’s degree in school counseling from State University College at Oswego and a certificate of advanced studies in educational administration from State University College at Cortland.

Before joining the Marcellus Central Schools community in 2002, she worked as a guidance counselor with the Union Springs Central School District for more than a decade.

“Ms. O'Mara's resume is impressive and her credential folder is replete with letters of commendation for her service on numerous curriculum task forces and her efforts as part of the Instructional Technology Team,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Craig J. Tice said. “We look forward to working with her in the year ahead.”

During her tenure as secondary curriculum coordinator, Ms. O’Mara has been diligent in collaborating with staff members to develop departmental action plans, review student test data and disseminate the National Common Core Standards, Dr. Tice said.

In voting to appoint Ms. O’Mara to the DMS helm, the board also granted her a concurrent, 12-month leave of absence from her secondary curriculum post. The district plans to hire an administrative intern/secondary curriculum coordinator as a temporary replacement for the 2013-14 school year.

Former DMS Principal Michael Dardaris resigned his post effective June 30.
