Marcellus MOSAIC Program Offers Summer Academic Camp

Among the most critical times in a student’s academic life is the transition time from grade to grade. The more positive the transition, the more likely that student success will occur. With this in mind, the Marcellus Central School District, once again, offered a summer academic camp to District students. The MOSAIC (Marcellus Offering Summer Academic Intervention Camp) program was supported through federal grant funding and served more than 250 students at seven (7) different grade levels during the summer of 2010. The purpose of the summer academic camp was threefold:
• To reinforce academic concepts and promote students’ academic growth
• To provide students with additional academic support during key transition times
• To involve and motivate students in their learning through the use of teaching strategies designed to encourage a high level of student participation
The summer 2010 MOSAIC academic camp ran from August 2nd through August 13th and was organized as follows:
MOSAIC I – K/Pre-1 to 1st Grade: Reading Readiness and Early Intervention
MOSAIC II – 1st Grade to 2nd Grade: Reading support
MOSAIC III – 2nd Grade to 3rd Grade: Continued reinforcement support and preparation for English language arts (ELA) and Math Assessments
MOSAIC IV – 3rd Grade to 4th Grade: Additional support for the transition into Grade 4/Driver Middle School with a concentration on ELA and Math
MOSAIC V – 4th Grade to 5th Grade: Additional support based on performance from 4th Grade
