Marcellus Summer Community Band 2010 Concert

Considerable community spirit along with a hardy dose of musical talent were clearly on display as the 2010 Marcellus Summer Community Band performed in concert on Wednesday, July 28th in the Groeling Auditorium at Marcellus Senior High School. The Summer Community Band is sponsored by the Town of Marcellus Summer Recreation Program which is coordinated by retired Marcellus Central School District teacher Philip Coccia. The band is directed by Marcellus Senior High School Band Director Michael Cirmo and community band membership is open to all area adults, high school students, and advanced middle school students. The group, which has been directed for the past nine years by Cirmo, rehearses for three weeks before performing in concert during week four. The entertaining and varied July 28th concert program included:

• Disney Around the World
• A Longford Legend, Movement II, “Young Molly Brown”
• Suite from the opera “Carmen”, Guest Conductor – Josh Nightingale, Marcellus Senior High School Class of 2005
• Selections from Star Wars
• Amparito Roco
• The Blue and the Gray
• Beauty and the Beast
• Hogan’s Hero March
• The American Frontier

Also spotlighted during the summer concert was an original music segment composed and performed by Rob Kronen on guitar and Chad Weinheimer on marimba/vibraphone. Both performers graduated from Marcellus Senior High School in 2008.
