Two Marcellus High School students were selected as finalists in an annual photography contest sponsored by the Syracuse law firm Bousquet Holstein (formerly Green & Seifter): Senior Katie Slade and sophomore Kelsey Rodriguez Doran.

More than 150 images were submitted to the firm’s fourth annual competition, which is open to any Syracuse and Onondaga County high school students in grades nine through 12. The theme for this year's contest was inspired by the Everson's “From New York to Corrymore: Robert Henri and Ireland,” which was up earlier this year at the museum. The exhibit included Robert Henri paintings of Irish landscapes and portraits, particularly children, created during the time of his travels to Ireland between 1913 and 1928.

The law firm challenged students to “discover and capture the unique perspectives of vibrant immigrant cultures and heritage found in their own families, in their neighborhoods, and in communities throughout the region,” according to a news release.

Katie submitted two photographs, one depicting a Chinese New Year’s parade and another featuring a St. Anthony’s Feast celebration in Boston.

Kelsey photographed an Irish step dancer in a preliminary performance.

Both Katie and Kelsey are students of art teacher Tara Charles.

“Thank you to everyone for the support you have given these students (and our art program) to help them reach this level of accomplishment!” Ms. Charles said about the students’ awards. “I truly believe it is a team effort!”

Each year, the Bousquet Holstein law firm features the winning image on the firm’s annual Thanksgiving card, with a short biography about the student photographer. The firm also posted the photographs of all finalists on its website.
