Parent Today: How parents can help kids shift their learning to the Common Core

Overwhelmed by the abundance of material available out on the Internet about New York state’s new Common Core Learning Standards and what they mean about student testing and success?

Adopted by the New York state Board of Regents in January 2011 and introduced in schools throughout the state in the 2012-13 school year, the Common Core Learning Standards are a set of clear guidelines showing what students in pre-kindergarten through grade 12 should be able to do in reading, writing, speaking and listening, language and mathematics.
