Jim Reagan Helping Fund

Jim Reagan, founder of the Reagan Insurance Agency, used to tell his sons a story about walking to school during the Great Depression with a girl who wore “burlap” to keep warm. Reagan shared the experience with his children in an effort to demonstrate the need to “give back” to the greater community and to care for those who are in need. Reagan’s sons, Michael, Rick, and Ned, remembered that story as they acted upon that family spirit of community involvement by dedicating the Jim Reagan Helping Fund in honor of their father Jim Reagan at the September 7, 2010 Marcellus Central School District Board of Education (BOE) meeting. The Reagan family will be donating $12,500 over the next five years ($2500 a year) to be used by building principals at their discretion to help children in need. The Reagan family and the Reagan Insurance Company have been strong supporters of the Marcellus Central School District for more than fifty years. Jim graduated from Marcellus in 1943 and is a former Board of Education member. Michael, Rick and Ned are all Marcellus alumni and all have remained active in school district programs. Jim and his sons were all present at the September 7th BOE meeting to present the $2,500 check and establish the Jim Reagan Helping Fund. Board of Education president Dave Kelly expressed the feeling of the entire school district as he thanked the Reagan family for their generous and heartfelt act of caring.
