K.C. Heffernan Elementary School 3rd Grade Student’s Dream Comes True

For Zach Haggett, 3rd grade student at K. C. Heffernan Elementary School who has ML/Mucolipidosis, attending a New York Yankee baseball game at Yankee Stadium had always been a dream in waiting. Zach is a Yankee fan extraordinaire who knows all the players’ names, numbers, and stats. This summer brought an end to Zach’s waiting as he was presented with the incredible opportunity to see all of his Yankee heroes up close and personal. Thanks to a generous donation facilitated by Rene Patterson through Utz Snacks and Quickway Markets, Zach and his family were able to visit Yankee Stadium for the September 4, 2010 Yankee game versus the Toronto Blue Jays. Zach’s second grade teacher Lisa MacLachlan also attended the game along with her daughter Emma, Zach’s parents John and Brenda, and Marcellus physical education teacher Shelly Stepien. The group from Marcellus was provided with box seats right behind home plate and the highlight of the game occurred when Zach’s name was flashed on the giant Yankee scoreboard for all to see. Not only did Zach’s dream come true, but his dedicated support provided the inspiration for the Yankees to a 7-5 victory.
