A crisp autumn day set the backdrop as the Driver Middle School (DMS) Mustang Pride organization held its third annual Mustang Pride Walk, Run, Race on Sunday, November 7, 2010 at Driver Middle School. Walkers and runners had the option of choosing between the 1.5 mile walking route or the 5 kilometer run course. Both courses took the adventurous participants on a journey through the village of Marcellus and the scenic Marcellus Schools campus. The theme for this year’s run was reflected on the Mustang Pride tee shirts, “Walk, Run Race, You’ll always be at a Mustang Pace”. That theme reflects the vision of the Mustang Pride organization which is a student club dedicated to community service and enriching the “safe and comfortable” learning environment at DMS. The group is facilitated by faculty advisors Kathy Rein and Dianne McArdell. The walk/run/race was designed to promote respect and cooperation throughout the Marcellus educational community. The November 7th event included refreshments, the 1.5 mile walk, the 3K run, and a presentation of the National Anthem by members of the DMS 7th and 8th Grade Band conducted by Audrey Turner. The race tee shirt was designed by Anna Perry, a student in Sandy Carey’s 5th grade class at DMS. Any monies raised from the event will be used to support Mustang Pride events such as the 2010 Halloween Dance and the spring Dance Marathon.
