Fiddler on the Roof: Driver Middle School Faculty Musical Is Coming In February

For more than fifteen years Diane Mueller, Driver Middle School (DMS) Math AIS teacher, has been producing and directing student and faculty/staff musicals that have both entertained and involved the entire DMS/Marcellus educational community. As a 5th grade teacher Mueller won the theatrical hearts of the community as she directed annual musical plays with her class. When she transitioned to her current AIS position Mueller began to produce and direct musical productions that included faculty, staff and students. Past faculty/student productions have included “The Wizard of Oz” (2006), “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” (2007), “Annie” (2008), and “The Wizard of Oz” (2009) with 7th and 8th grade students. Funds collected from the theatrical productions have been donated to a variety of charitable causes among which have been Books for Africa, the Jumbo Jipya School in Kenya, the Marcellus Faculty Association Scholarship Fund, and to local Marcellus families in need. This year Mueller and her enthusiastic DMS cast, which also includes faculty/staff members from K. C. Heffernan Elementary School and Marcellus Senior High School, will be presenting the classic musical theater production “Fiddler on the Roof”. Fiddler tells the tale of Tevye, the father of five daughters, and “his attempt to maintain his family and religious traditions while outside influences encroach upon their lives.” Classic musical numbers from the Tony award winning play include “Tradition”, “Matchmaker”, “If I Were a Rich Man”, and “Sunrise, Sunset”. Featured performers include Steve Nabinger/DMS Librarian as Tevye; Mary Jo Hoeft/DMS Science Teacher as Golde; Becky Eaton/KCH Speech Therapist, Debbie Bowman/DMS Nurse, Jeni Comstock/DMS Special Education Teacher, Lorraine Reynolds/DMS Counselor, and Erin Watson/DMS Foreign Language as Tevye’s daughters; Peggy Sundberg/DMS English Teacher as The Fiddler; and Janet O’Mara/Grade 7-12 Curriculum Coordinator as The Matchmaker. Additional performers include Bill Manciocchi/DMS Math Teacher, Shelly Stepien/Physical Education Teacher, Dean Olin/District Tech Support, Emma McHugh/DMS Home Economics Teacher, George Mango/DMS 6th Grade Teacher, Sue Tavolacci/DMS 6th Grade Teacher, Joanne Loudermilk/DMS Special Education Teacher, Mary Ellen Koloski/KCH Pre-1st Teacher, Dean Kloss/KCH 1st Grade Teacher, and Michael Dardaris/DMS Principal. Funds from this year’s production will be donated to upgrading the sound system in the DMS Aitchison Auditorium. Lighting upgrades have recently been completed in the facility and Mueller wanted this year’s Fiddler performance to help enhance the sound quality for future student productions and events. All are invited to attend the 2010-2011 Driver Middle School faculty/staff production of “Fiddler on the Roof”.
