A Spring Fling: Presented by K. C. Heffernan Elementary School 2nd Grade Classes

The K. C. Heffernan (KCH) Elementary School gymnasium was filled with delightful sights and sounds as second grade classes preformed “A Spring Thing” directed and programmed by Susan Stukus, KCH music teacher. The creative musical program was presented on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at 5:30 PM to families and parents. The program included a series of classroom musical performances that blended vocal selections and instrumental backgrounds with a touch of video/slide show story telling. A variety of creative movements and colorful props supported each performance. The program included:

  • In the Tall, Tall Grass, written by Denise Fleming, performed by Mrs. Burns’ class
  • Green Beats, written by Donna Dirksing, performed by Mrs. Maclachlan’s and Mrs Morrissey’s classes
  • Old Black Fly, written by Jim Alyesworth and illustrated by Stephen Gamell, performed by Ms. Sega’s class
  • Rain Speech, It’s Raining, Rain, Rain, written by Donna Dirksong, performed by Mrs. DeCook’s and Mrs. O’Brien classes

“A Spring Fling” came to a rousing conclusion as second grade students circled the audience and performed “This Is My Song”, by John Jacobson and Roger Emerson. Stukus introduced the “This is My Song” selection by sharing her appreciation for the assistance and support she received from the following parent volunteers:
