Marcellus senior Garrett Bishop tees up for a good cause

Marcellus High School senior Garrett Bishop picked the perfect time to shoot his best day of golf ever – when he was one of 96 amateur golfers invited to play with the pros in the Folds of Honor Patriot Golf Day Pro-Am Tournament.

Held Sept. 4 at the Tuscarora Golf Club, the event raised money for the Folds of Honor Foundation, which provides post-secondary educational scholarships for children and spouses of military personnel wounded or killed in service to their country. The amateur golfers joined 32 professionals on teams of four.

Garrett shot a seven under par 64, which included seven birdies and a 20-foot putt to save par on the 14th hole. He came in first place for amateurs under 21, and his team tied for 17th.

"I want to dedicate this achievement to my grandmother, who encouraged me to join the golf team, and to Joe Goss, the only golf coach I've ever had,” Garrett said. “He's taught me everything I know."

Mr. Goss is a physical education teacher in the district and coaches the boys varsity golf team and modified football team.
