| Ms. Janet O'Mara, DMS Principal |
“I am honored and excited,” Ms. O’Mara said after the board vote. “I look forward to the challenges the position will afford me while I continue to be a part of the DMS community. I hope to support the staff, the students and the parents as together we add blocks to the very strong foundation that was built long before my arrival. It is a pleasure and a privilege to work in the Marcellus School District.”
Previously, Ms. O’Mara served as the district’s secondary curriculum coordinator, beginning in the 2010-11 school year. Before that, she was assistant principal for DMS. She was tapped to serve as acting principal and then interim principal after former DMS Principal Michael Dardaris resigned his post June 30, 2013.
“Janet has handled the transition with a great deal of aplomb, and for that reason the Board of Education elected to remove the "interim" label and to appoint her to a three-year probationary position in honor of her dedicated service,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Craig J. Tice said. “Board members were very impressed with the way Ms. O'Mara ensured a calm ending to the last school year as the acting principal and a smooth start to the beginning of the next school year as the interim principal. She has the respect of the middle school faculty and the administrative team.”
A native of Central Square, Ms. O’Mara holds a bachelor’s degree in biology education from Le Moyne College, a master’s degree in school counseling from State University College at Oswego and a certificate of advanced studies in educational administration from State University College at Cortland.
Before joining the Marcellus Central Schools community in 2002, she worked as a guidance counselor with the Union Springs Central School District for more than a decade.
