On April 27th, twenty-one students participating in Mrs. Rocco’s sixth grade Enrichment Lab classes competed in a national competition called America Answers Thinking Cap Quiz Bowl. The students were well prepared for the challenge after practicing for several weeks using computer contest CD’s from past years.
The Thinking Cap Quiz Bowl sponsors individual state competitions each year as well as the national contest. Quiz Bowl team members must work together to answer 100 multiple-choice questions with speed and accuracy in this online Quiz Bowl.
The questions challenge the students’ knowledge in a wide variety of subject areas such as math, science, history, geography, current events, literature, spelling, vocabulary, sports, and general knowledge.
As it turned out, our Driver Middle School team placed 18th out of 182 teams competing throughout the nation. They answered 93% of the questions correctly. This team also took First Place New York State Honors.
Team members were Hannah Abbott, Meg Blystone, Faith Bolewski, Jack Brennan, Sarah Burke, Trevor Costa, Tom Dailey, Audrey Frajda, Jason Gerbsch, Maverick Keegan, Maddy Locastro, Colin McCormick, Rickie Mixon, James Murphy, Cecil Nelson, Hayley Randall, Mackenzie Sadler, Teagan Todd, Chris Torell, Rosalee Winderl, and Shannon White. Audrey Frajda and Teagan Todd had the shared responsibility at the keyboard and they both did an excellent job.
Congratulations to the entire Quiz Bowl team for your outstanding performance!
