Excitement, pride, and University of Buffalo “blue” were the order of the day as Joe Felicia, Marcellus varsity football defensive tackle, signed a National Letter of Intent and accepted a full scholarship to play football next year for the University of Buffalo. Family, friends, teammates and coaches gathered in the Marcellus Senior High School library for the signing ceremony held on Thursday, February 3, 2011. The ceremony was held on February 3rd due a weather related snow school cancellation on the 2nd. Assistant Marcellus varsity football coach, Rick Belvito, welcomed family and friends to the joyful event as he reminisced, “Joe is about hard work. I remember when Joe came to our football camp back in 6th or 7th grade. He didn’t want to get out of the car. And now here he is, several years later, signing a national letter of intent to play football on a full football scholarship at the Division I level.” Varsity coach Joe Fiacchi was unable to attend the ceremony due to a work commitment. Felicia’s family was decked out in University of Buffalo “blue” and filled with pride as Felicia signed his national letter of intent and donned his University of Buffalo cap. Felicia has had a star studded career as a Marcellus varsity football player. His stellar football statistics include 7.5 sacks and 64 tackles as a junior, and 11 sacks and 48 tackles as a senior. Honors include:
· Junior season: First (1st) Team All League (Class B West)
Third (3rd) Team All CNY
· First (1st) Team All League
First (1st) Team All CNY
First (1st) Team All State
Congratulations go out to Joe Felicia whose academic/athletic talents, work ethic, and sportsmanship represent the best of the best in interscholastic athletics.
