Third Grade Book Project

“Tell me, and I will forget. Show me, and I may remember. Involve me, and I will understand.” If ever there was an English language arts learning experience that exemplified this statement, then Kelly Cottrell’s third grade book project at K. C. Heffernan Elementary School (KCH) is it. Cottrell, a third grade teacher at KCH, had each of her students read a book and then create a poster about the book. But it wasn’t just any poster. As third grade student Kayla Berube described it “We had to read a book, create a ‘3-D’ object from the book, create a ‘Character Book’, create a ‘post card’ written from a main character to another character in the book, and write a summary of the book.” Cottrell also explained that the background of each book poster “is a setting from the book”. The book posters are all proudly displayed on the hallway walls outside Cottrell’s classroom at Heffernan. Listed below are Cottell’s students and the book project they completed:
