The past, present and future came together for both fun and meaning as Marcellus Senior High School (SHS) held its annual alumni holiday reunion for the class of 2010 on Monday, December 20th in the SHS library. 2010 graduates had the opportunity to share memories, visit with past teachers, greet old friends, walk the halls, and enjoy the taste of good food and refreshments. At the same time the holiday reunion provides the Marcellus Central School district with a venue for gathering information from the district’s most recent graduates on the effectiveness of school programs. The group had the chance to share their thoughts and ideas by participating in an alumni survey. Among the interview questions asked were:
How did your high school education prepare you for the rigors of college level material and work load?
How did the resources of the high school library compare with resources at the college level library?
Is there anything you can tell us that would help us better prepare future graduates for life after high school?
The survey also gathered information relative to subject area curriculum and programs. The highlight of the class of 2010 holiday visit was a senior seminar in which class members shared their college/work experiences with the current senior class. Principal John Durkee facilitated discussion among seniors and graduates relative to the admissions process, financial aid, and the pros and cons of the college and work experience.
