Marcellus Running Club Participates in Syracuse Festival of Races

More than 55 students from the Marcellus Running Club put foot to pavement as they participated in the Syracuse Festival of Races on October 3, 2010. The annual race took place at Manley Field House and featured nationally renowned men’s and women’s 5 kilometer races along with the festival’s spotlighted 3 kilometer race. This year’s running club was facilitated by Diana Finn/Marcellus Central School District psychologist and Floradell Clarke/school physical therapist. Marcellus Running Club participants prepared themselves for the challenging festival 3 kilometer run through weekly practices that included warm-up exercises, stretches, and practice runs. The main goal of the Marcellus Running Club is “to promote lifelong wellness and fitness” to the more than 80 participants. Many of club’s previous student runners have gone on to success on both the modified and varsity level cross country and track and field teams. Marcellus varsity girls and boys cross country teams are currently state ranked. A special thanks goes out to this year’s adult volunteers: Gina Powell, Tom Shea, Kristin Stuart, Sue Vetsch, and Dennis Welch.
