Driver Middle School Fifth Grade Wax Museum

The halls of Driver Middle School came to “still” life as fifth grade classes at Driver Middle School held their annual Wax Museum on April 29, 2010. Not a word was spoken nor a sound heard as hundreds of families and Marcellus community members turned out to view the unique displays that lined the hallways at DMS. Each fifth grade student selects an historical figure, conducts research, and writes a report for the wax museum event. The traditional instructional project involves elements of social studies, English language arts, and information gathering curricula. The students then dress in character and pose without a sound or movement for the hour long wax museum evening extravaganza. Families and community members are free to visit the historical displays as they move through the first floor hallways of Driver Middle School. The characters depicted at the wax museum spanned not only the globe but also the past/present areas of politics, government, invention, art, entertainment, music, athletics, and the military. Among the historical figures depicted at this year’s DMS fifth grade wax museum were Theodore Roosevelt, King Tutankhamen, Florence Nightingale, Sitting Bull, Leonardo da Vinci, Albert Einstein, Will Rogers, Neil Armstrong, James Dean, Lucille Ball, Danica Patrick, Amelia Earhart, Thomas Edison, Napoleon, Betsy Ross, Davy Crockett, John Lennon, Mohammad Ali, John F. Kennedy, Sandra Bullock, Serena Williams, Lance Armstrong, Benjamin Franklin, Mia Hamm, and Louis Armstrong.
