National Junior Honor Society Induction Ceremony

Colleen Mahoney, Driver Middle School English teacher and National Junior Honor Society advisor, set the tone for the evening as she welcomed students and families to the 2010 National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) Induction Ceremony in the Aitchison Auditorium on May 3, 2010, “I want to challenge you to what your notion of service is. Service is a sincere gift of yourself to others.” Mahoney listed NJHS service initiatives as she congratulated this year’s inductees and their families on “a job well done that is the culmination of much work.” Michael Dardaris, Driver Middle School Principal, spoke to “the experience that happens ahead of time.” Dardaris shared his thoughts as he stated, “If I could give you one message it would be that it is about the process and the experiences, that is what makes you grow!” Marguerite Sundberg talked of the honor society “light of knowledge” before lighting the candle of knowledge. Current NJHS members were then called upon to speak about the honor society traits of scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship, and character. The highlight of the evening was the reciting of the NJHS pledge and the presentation of induction certificates to each new member. A reception, sponsored by the Marcellus Academic Club, was held in the Driver Middle School cafeteria following the induction ceremony.
