Hayley Ireland, Marcellus Senior High School Class of 2011, Honored in New York City

Congratulations go out Hayley Ireland who was honored at the Financial Literacy Certification Program’s Scholars’ Reception held at the Museum of American Finance, on Wall Street in New York City on June 8, 2011. The Financial Literacy Certification Program and Test is sponsored by the Working in Support of Education (WISE) organization. Hayley, a student in Jabe Kile’s Economics course at Marcellus Senior High School, earned a 100% on the 2011 Financial Literacy Test which was administered in May of 2011. Ireland was not only awarded a medal for her efforts but she was honored as the sole student speaker at the Scholars’ Reception. Ireland’s mother, Margaret, accompanied Hayley to the special recognition ceremony.

The Financial Literacy Certification Test is the culminating assessment in Kile’s financial literacy unit. The unit’s topics included banking, budgeting, saving, credit, investing, and insurance. This school year a total of 162 seniors from Kile’s fall and spring semester Economics courses and from Kile’s Advanced Placement Government and Politics courses challenged the test. The Marcellus pass rate on the test was an exceptional 96%. Consequently, Kile’s students will be awarded their fifth consecutive Blue Star Award (awarded to all schools with at least 75% of their students passing the test). The Marcellus scoring average was 87% of the questions correct and the national average was 72%. The Marcellus students who earned the Scholars’ recognition (at least 96%) were:
