Third Grade Parent Information Night at Driver Middle School

Driver Middle School (DMS) held its annual 3rd Grade Parent Information Night on Monday, June 6, 2011 in the DMS cafeteria. The informational evening is designed to inform K.C. Heffernan 3rd grade parents of Driver Middle School programs as their children make the transition from K. C. Heffernan Elementary School to DMS in September of 2011. Michael Dardaris, DMS Principal, welcomed parents to the program that included:
An overview of 4th grade English language arts, math, social studies, science, and health curricula – Suzanne Alexander/4th Grade Teacher
Special education programming – Jeanine Snyder/DMS Resource Teacher
Professional Training and Leadership – Kayla Hill/Assistant Principal
Communication (agendas, parent conferences, phone calls, e-mails, report cards, etc) – Mindy Abbott/4th Grade Teacher
Physical Education – Shelly Stepien/Physical Education Teacher
Music Programs – Jen Patterson/Music Teacher
Technology – Megan Hart/4th Grade Teacher
DMS PTA Programs – Janine Lundrigan
Grade 4-6 counselor Lorraine Reynolds shared the variety of supports and programs available to all 4th grade students and also gave an overview of the 3rd grade to 4th grade transition process. Megan Nolan, 4th grade teacher, peaked audience interest as she related the results of a student survey she had administered with 4th grade students. The survey provided some student insight into the 4th grade learning experience, “The best thing about 4th grade is making new friends, band, science lab, and having the freedom to make choices.”
