Mighty Minds: The Musical That Makes Learning Fun

Musical delight and a contemporary message set the stage at K. C. Heffernan Elementary School on May 19th and 20th as Janet Kringer’s third grade class and Dean Kloss’ first grade class presented the musical play “Mighty Minds” by John Jacobson and Cristi Cary Miller. The play follows the exploits of Super Heroes Mighty Math Mind, Mighty Spelling Mind, Mighty Reading Mind, Mighty History Mind, Mighty Science Mind, and Mighty Music Mind as they help a third grade class through the challenges of high stakes standardized testing. Musical numbers included “Test Anxiety” (Soloist: Sarah Jeske, Abigail Brandt, Madison Abbott, and Michael Quick), “Mighty Minds”, “Gimme a Book”, “Conga Math” (Soloist: Jack McAulliff), “I Wanna Know” (Soloists: Brandon Meyer, Sarah Hutchings, Claudia Leubner, Jamie Bragman, Sarah Fallon, Kyle Brown, Tighe Powell, Elizabeth LoBello), and “We’ll Be There”. The theatrical spotlight of the musical was the tribute to KCH staff and parents during the “We’ll Be There” number in which students paraded out in costumes meant to mimic the teacher/parent that they were portraying. The play was presented during the school day with a special evening performance on Friday, May 20th.
