Cultural “BRAVO”

The world languages of French and Spanish were vividly portrayed on March 3, 2010 as Marcellus Senior High School upper level French and Spanish classes presented their cultural BRAVO performance to Driver Middle School seventh and eighth grade students. Cultural BRAVO serves to highlight the cultures and languages of France and Spain through a series of entertaining performances. Each high school Level IV and Level V French and Spanish class created a unique presentation that was performed in the respective language with English translation. The BRAVO program served to immerse 7th and 8th grade students in a world language experience while at the same time giving a “shout out” for the high school performers. The BRAVO performances took place in the Aitchison Auditorium and featured:
Spanish V Class – “Feliz Navidad” – song performance plus history of the song
French V Class – Presentation of the African Folktale “The Tortoise and the Leopard”. The tale was told in French and English and acted out by the students.
Spanish V Class – Presentation of traditions from around the Latino world. Students spotlighted the New Year’s Eve “grape” eating tradition from Spain; the Mexican Christmas towel tradition, the Puerto Rican 15th birthday dress tradition; and the Guatemalan worry doll tradition.
French IV Class – Students took a voyage around the French speaking world. The trip stopped at Marcellus High School, a Paris Café, and a Quebec Dog Race.
Spanish V Class – Students performed a unique and entertaining song and dance rendition of Shakua’s “Whatever, Whenever”.
Spanish IV Class – Students drew both laughter and applause from the audience as they re-enacted the Mexican version of the TV Game Show “Family Feud”.
Spanish IV Class – Students acted out the FIFA “futbol” (soccer) championship match to the backdrop of Ricky Martin’s “Cup of Life”.
