K.C. Heffernan Hats for Haiti and March All School Meeting

K. C. Heffernan (KCH) Elementary School Principal Gary Bissaillon donned his Boston Red Sox hat as he welcomed KCH students to the March 2010 all school meeting. A variety of unique and creative hats punctuated the audience as Heffernan Elementary School held a “Hats for Haiti” day. Students and staff donated money for the privilege of wearing a hat. More than $380 was raised and donated to earthquake relief for the nation of Haiti. Michael Brown, KCH Library Media Specialist, opened the all school meeting as he sang “I’m Going Down to the School Book Fair/Library”. Bissaillon then introduced the monthly character trait of fairness, “Being fair means treating people equally.” KCH administrative intern Tammy Farrell shared the story of Molly and the Sandbox which stressed that “I can make a difference and fairness starts with me.” Recognitions are always a highlight of the KCH meetings and March recognitions included the honoring of Benjamin Hayduke, 1st grade, as the “physical education student of the month”. Bissaillon also recognized third grade students Pat Morocco, Bryce Kelly, and Edward Plogman who shaved their heads and raised more than $1400 for cancer research through the St. Baldrick’s foundation. 2nd Grade student Jack McAuliffe was also recognized for his participation in the St. Baldrick’s initiative. Joey Perlioni, 2nd grade, shared a book review of Club Penguin: Star Reporter and Ilah Welsh, 1st grade, shared her thoughts on Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.
