It wasn’t quite the level of talent as the NCAA Final Four and it didn’t quite erase the memory of Syracuse University’s loss to Butler but the mayhem and excitement created by the Driver Middle School Goofy Basketball Game held on Friday, March 26th clearly put Marcellus’ own special brand of “March Madness” on display. The traditional event was sponsored by the Driver Middle School PTA and funds raised from the event will be used to fund the 8th grade end of the year trip and the 8th grade completion ceremony. Additionally, students from Nancy van der Ven’s 6th grade raised monies for the Haitian Relief Fund through the selling of goodies at the concession stand that they created and staffed. Maureen Henesey/ Marcellus occupational therapist got the evening off to a start with an inspirational rendition of the National Anthem. George Mango/DMS 6th grade teacher brought his own special brand of commentator and analyst to the evening as DMS staff put their basketball skills, or lack thereof, on display. Costumed quarterly competitions for the event included bozos vs. babies; friends vs. foes; dancers vs. duckies; and beauties vs. babies. Brian Ramsden served as time keeper for the evening while Shelly Stepien/Marcellus Physical Education Teacher was the referee. In addition to the costumed basketball affair activities for the evening included a 50-50 raffle, the raffling off of a signed 2010 Syracuse University team basketball, and the selling of SU’s “Shut It Down” CD, Sincere appreciation is expressed to those parents and staff members who helped with concessions and costumes. Thanks also go out to the participants, who put themselves out there for all the community to see. Goofy Team members:
