Marcellus Central School District Festival of Bands

In what has become one of the major highlights of the concert season the Marcellus Central School District held its annual “Festival o Bands” on Thursday, March 25, 2010 in the senior high school gymnasium. Guest conductor for the musical celebration was William Palange who is currently the conductor of the Concert Band and Wind Ensemble as well as the “Marching Bucaneers” at Oswego High School. The Oswego Wind Ensemble has performed with nationally acclaimed conductors and has featured nationally acclaimed soloists such as George Coble and Patrick Carney. The Marching Bucaneers have appeared throughout the United States, most notably in the Fiesta Bowl Parade and the National Pageant of Bands. The Festival of Bands performance included:
· The Marcellus Elementary Band, Carmen Costa,Jr., Director performed “Drive”, “The Firebird Finale”, “All the King’s Men”(conducted by Mr. Palange), and “Metamorphosis”(conducted by Mr. Palange)
· The Driver Middle School Band, Audrey Turner, Director, performed “Intrada Festiva”, “In Heaven’s Air” (conducted by Mr. Palange), and “Heartland March” (conducted by Mr. Palange)
· The Marcellus High School Concert Band, Michael J. Cirmo, Director, performed “Chant and Jubilo”, and “All Glory Told” (conducted by Mr. Palange)
· The Marcellus High School Symphonic Band, Michael J. Cirmo, Director, performed “The Trombone King” and “El Camino Real” (conducted by Mr. Palange)
The Festival of Bands was brought to an exciting conclusion as the Combined Bands performed the “Marcellus March”, an original piece by John Edmondson that was commissioned and premiered by the 1993-1994 Marcellus Elementary Band.
