National Honor Society Induction

Marcellus Senior High School held its 2010 National Honor Society (NHS) Induction ceremony on March 28th in the high school cafeteria. John Durkee welcomed students and families to this special event as he reflected on the honor society’s goals which included “enthusiasm for scholarship, stimulation of a desire to serve, development of leadership skills, and enhancement of character development.” Durkee also stressed that “as National Honor Society members you represent the top 10% of the student body”. Heidi Busa, high school science teacher/faculty advisor, introduced the day’s program as parents and family members applauded the exceptional achievements of their children. 2009 NHS member Tom Glose reviewed the process for selection and NHS members Keith Shields, Chelsea Tarolli, and Tori Peryea spoke to the NHS traits of leadership, scholarship, and community service. Shields, Tarolli, and Peryea then lit the honor society candles which symbolize each trait. The highlight of the program was the introduction of each National Honor Society 2010 inductee. A slide show provided the backdrop as one by one current society members moved to the podium and shared the accomplishments and attributes of each new inductee. The level of involvement and the degree of commitment of these exceptional young adults was clearly in evidence as each new member was introduced. The unique talents of the 2010 National Honor Society class are demonstrated through accomplishments that bridge the areas of academics, fine arts, the performing arts, adventure/travel, the work place, spirituality, leadership, and most importantly, service to the greater community. A reception sponsored by the Marcellus Academic Club was held in the high school foyer following the induction ceremony. We are very proud to welcome the 2010 National Honor Society inductees:
