K.C. Heffernan Elementary School Senior Citizen Breakfast

Senior citizens who live in the Marcellus community received a special treat on Monday, April 12th as K. C. Heffernan (KCH) Elementary School held its annual senior citizen breakfast. Third grade students served up a delicious breakfast amid a backdrop of wonderful art work created by KCH art teacher Fran Hagan’s young art students. The highlight of the morning event was a variety of entertaining presentations by individual KCH students and classrooms. Among the many performances were:
Suzanne McClurg’s first grade class sang Glen Colton’s School Song, “I Will Not Hurt Anyone on the Inside, I Will Not Hurt Anyone on the Outside”. The young performers also brought the audience to laughter as they sang a song that featured fast food and healthy food.
Mei LaMarre, 2nd grade, performed a wonderful rendition of Johan Sebastion Bach’s Minuet 2 on the violin.
Jack McAuliff, 3rd grade, demonstrated the energy and talent of youth as he performed a dynamic Irish step dance.
Denise Moniz’ Kindergarten class sang, and acted out, Rick Charette’s “Alligator in the Elevator”.
Third grade student story tellers Madison Green, Zach Pantaleo, and Ethan Laclaverie demonstrated their considerable storytelling skills as they told the stories “How the Earth and Sky Came to Be, “I Can’t Help Myself, and “Tillie” respectively.
Anna Fern, 1st Grade, played a solo piano rendition of “My Heart Will Go On” from the movie Titanic.
Stacy Grooms’ 3rd grade class played a variety of instruments as they performed a instrumental and vocal selection directed by Susan Stukus, KCH music teacher.
A special highlight of the senior citizen breakfast was a presentation by art teacher Fran Hagan and several of her art students. The students displayed and described the various art projects that they have been working on throughout the school year. Among the works displayed were Pre-1st puppet making, 1st grade family portraits, 2nd grade “fish” drawings, and 3rd grade Egyptian masks. KCH art students participating in the presentation included Amanda Castellino, Tyler Delfavero, Jonah Kwasnowski, Birdie Manahan, Kyle Fournier, Mei LaMarre, Matthew McManus, Zach Haggett, Andrew Kammer, and Cory Knox.
